Green Bay Breaks Ground on $14.3 Million Shipyard Park

City leaders in Green Bay broke ground on Monday for Phase II of the Shipyard redevelopment project in the downtown Broadway District. The $14.3 million project will transform a long-idle stretch of the Fox River into a public park featuring an urban beach, dog park, splash pad, lit volleyball courts, a shipping crane-themed playground, and a riverfront container bar.

On Broadway, Inc., the non-profit organization overseeing the development, spent nearly a decade planning the project to minimize the financial burden on taxpayers. The current phase is supported by a $7.15 million grant from the National Park Service, with 8Pine serving as the general contractor under an $11.67 million construction contract. This follows the completion of Phase I in October 2024, which established a riverfront promenade, floating docks, and a kayak launch.

Construction for Phase II is expected to continue through 2027. A third phase, which will introduce shipping containers for seasonal businesses, is planned but has no set timeline. Project manager Thomas Ramsey of Ayres Associates noted that the groundbreaking marks the official transition from the design phase to construction.
