Indonesia Conducts Joint Military Exercises With India and Singapore

Indonesia completed a joint special forces exercise with India and an inaugural fighter air patrol with Singapore to enhance regional security and interoperability.

Indonesia executed two distinct bilateral military operations on November 4, 2026, strengthening defense ties with India and Singapore. In Indonesia, the Indonesian Army and the Indian Army's Parachute Regiment concluded the 48-hour validation phase of the Garuda Shakti 2026 exercise. The drills, which began October 27 in Banyuwangi, culminated in a joint ambush and a helicopter-borne air assault on a simulated enemy camp in jungle terrain.

Simultaneously, the Indonesian Air Force and the Republic of Singapore Air Force completed Patkor Indopura, their first-ever joint fighter air patrol. The two-day operation utilized four F-16 aircraft to patrol the border airspace between the two nations. The mission was led by the chiefs of both air forces, Major-General Kelvin Fan and Air Chief Marshal Mohamad Tonny Harjono, who flew in their respective aircraft to exercise standing operating procedures.

Officials from both operations emphasized the strategic value of the drills. The Indian Embassy in Indonesia noted that the Garuda Shakti exercises demonstrated seamless coordination and synergy regardless of terrain. Meanwhile, Singapore's Ministry of Defence stated the air patrol reinforces mutual trust and a shared commitment to safeguarding borders against transnational terrorism threats.
