Terrorists Kill Two Chhattisgarh Laborers in Kulgam District

Terrorists opened fire on migrant laborers at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam district, Jammu and Kashmir, on the evening of July 31, 2026. Two workers from Chhattisgarh, Deepak Ratray, 24, and Bopinder, 28, were targeted in the attack. Ratray died at the scene, while Bopinder died on Saturday after being treated at Government Medical College Anantnag and SKIMS Hospital in Srinagar.

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, condemned the attack and directed security forces to intensify operations to eliminate the perpetrators. In response, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir launched a massive cordon-and-search operation in the area. The attack occurred during the Amarnath Yatra and follows the July 22 killing of Police head constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi in Anantnag.

People's Democratic Party chief Mehbooba Mufti condemned the killings, describing the targeting of laborers as unimaginably cruel. This incident marks the first terror attack targeting migrant workers in the region in 21 months, following a similar attack in February 2024 where two laborers from Punjab were killed in Srinagar.
