Orizzonte Sistemi Navali Signs 3.7 Billion Euro Destroyer Deal

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali, a joint venture between Fincantieri and Leonardo, signed a 3.7 billion euro agreement to supply two new-generation DDX destroyers to the Italian navy. The contract was secured through the Organisation for Joint Armament Cooperation, which manages procurement for several European militaries.

Fincantieri will design the naval platform and act as the system integrator, while Leonardo will produce the combat systems. The total contract value is split with approximately 1.8 billion euros for Fincantieri and 1.7 billion euros for Leonardo, though 1.3 billion euros of the total remains in options. The destroyers feature high levels of digitalization and automation, with scheduled deliveries in 2033 and 2035.

Pierroberto Folgiero, Chief Executive of Fincantieri, stated that the deal strengthens leadership in the naval defense sector and invests in the development of expertise and technologies to consolidate Italy's industrial and technological sovereignty.
