AI Investment Sustains 3 Percent Global Economic Growth

Kristalina Georgieva reports that artificial intelligence infrastructure investment is offsetting energy supply shocks to maintain global economic growth at approximately 3 per cent.

Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, announced that strong investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure is maintaining global economic growth at approximately 3 per cent. Speaking at the IMF and World Bank annual meetings in Bangkok, Georgieva described the AI boom as both a demand shock and an investment shock that offsets the negative impact of an energy supply shock.

Georgieva stated that this shift into higher gear is what is keeping the world economy growing despite energy pressures. The investment is projected to increase growth in advanced regional economies by 0.5 to 1 percentage point and emerging Asian economies by 0.2 to 0.8 percentage point.

Asian nations that supply AI hardware, including Thailand, are positioned to receive significant benefits from this trend.
