Palantir CEO Alex Karp Warns Against Frontier AI Dependency

Alex Karp, the CEO of Palantir Technologies Inc., has criticized frontier AI labs such as OpenAI Inc. and Anthropic PBC for attempting to drug addict enterprises into a future where these labs control business profitability and intellectual property. Karp argues that model makers use token structures to distill value from the enterprise sector, threatening the sovereignty of the organizations they serve.

To counter this, Karp advocates for AI sovereignty, urging companies to use an application layer that keeps data in-house rather than relying on external model providers. This position has found support among other tech leaders, including Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who noted that current AI regimes facilitate the exact transfer of control that Karp and other companies fear.

In response, OpenAI Inc. and Anthropic PBC maintain that customer data is secure and not used for training without explicit consent. Meanwhile, Palantir Technologies Inc. and other firms have signed an open letter defending open-weight AI models, presenting them as essential tools for maintaining national security.
