TerraPower Targets Ten Reactors Annually by Mid-2030s

CEO Chris Opperman announced that TerraPower is experiencing significant demand for its atrium reactors, primarily from utilities and AI hyperscalers facing massive electricity needs. To fund construction without increasing costs for residential ratepayers, the company is utilizing long-term power purchase agreements lasting 20 to 30 years. Some data center operators are reportedly paying a premium to secure emission-free energy and supply stability.

TerraPower is currently building its first grid-scale power station in Wyoming, with production expected to begin by 2031. The project received initial approval from the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and investment matching from the United States Department of Energy.

To reach its goal of producing ten reactors per year by the mid-2030s, the company is partnering with South Korean firms SK and Hyundai Engineering and Construction. TerraPower established a framework agreement with Hyundai Engineering and Construction for up to eight reactors, aiming to leverage South Korea's nuclear supply chain to achieve a 36-month construction timeline following groundbreaking.
