Azerbaijan and China Implement 50 Joint Economic Projects

Azerbaijan and China are currently implementing approximately 50 joint projects across the industry, agriculture, transportation, construction, trade, and services sectors. During a reception in Baku marking the 77th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev reported that 455 Chinese companies are now active within the Azerbaijani economy.

Financial ties between the two nations have grown steadily since 1995, with China investing $976 million in Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan investing $1.9 billion in China. The partnership focuses heavily on the Belt and Road initiative and the development of the Middle Corridor to improve transit between China, Central Asia, Azerbaijan, and Europe. This strategic focus has yielded results, with transit shipments increasing by 8% in the first eight months of 2026 to reach 272,600 metric tons.

Beyond logistics and infrastructure, the two countries are expanding cooperation in education, green energy, and tourism. Tourism growth has been specifically supported by a mutual visa-free regime that the two nations introduced in 2025.
