Reform UK Unveils Senedd Manifesto Featuring Tax Cuts and Infrastructure
Reform UK proposed cutting Welsh income tax and scrapping urban speed limits in a new manifesto for the May 7 Senedd election.
The political party Reform UK released its manifesto for the May 7, 2026, Senedd election, outlining a platform focused on fiscal reduction and infrastructure development for Wales. Led by Dan Thomas, the party proposes cutting all Welsh income tax rates by 1p and reducing civil service staffing by 10%. The platform also seeks to scrap the default 20mph urban speed limit and end the Nation of Sanctuary policy, which includes stopping the use of migrant hotels.
Infrastructure pledges include the construction of the M4 relief road and upgrades to the A55 and A470. On social policy, the party intends to prioritize Welsh residents and veterans for social housing based on a 10-year residency requirement.
David Phillips of the Institute for Fiscal Studies criticized the feasibility of these plans. He stated that the party has not fully addressed the fiscal realities facing the next Welsh Government and suggested that the proposed tax cuts would likely necessitate unstated reductions in public services.
