South Korea Dispatches 44-Member Relief Team to Nepal

The Government of South Korea is dispatching a 44-member Korea Disaster Relief Team (KDRT) to Nepal following a formal request for assistance from the Nepali government. The team will support search and rescue operations in the northern Rasuwa district, which was struck by massive floods on August 26.

Led by Lee Kyu-ho, the mission includes personnel from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Korea International Cooperation Agency, and the National Fire Agency. The team is scheduled to depart Tuesday night via a South Korean military transport aircraft for a 10-day mission. This deployment follows a prior announcement of $1 million in humanitarian assistance on August 27.

The KDRT will operate alongside a government rapid response team already on the ground. That team is currently working to locate nine missing South Korean nationals in the affected region.
