Anthropic Launches Opus 5 AI Model for Office Work

Anthropic released its Opus 5 AI model on July 24, 2026, targeting efficiency and affordability for programming and daily office tasks.

The San Francisco-based AI startup Anthropic launched its latest artificial intelligence model, Opus 5, on Friday, July 24, 2026. Positioned as a value-oriented alternative to the higher-end Fable 5, Opus 5 offers similar capabilities at half the price while providing more efficiency than the previous Opus 4.8 version.

Designed specifically for computer programming and daily office work, the model includes improved resistance to misuse. Because Opus 5 is less capable of exploiting cyber vulnerabilities than Fable 5, it features less restrictive safeguards. Product leader Dianne Penn stated that the release reflects a rapid pace of development.

The launch occurs after a period during which Fable 5 was temporarily unavailable. That disruption followed concerns from the United States government regarding the potential diversion of Fable 5's capabilities to foreign military intelligence.
