Brazil Summons Argentine Envoy Over Javier Milei's Aid to Bolsonaro
Brazilian authorities summoned Argentina's top envoy to demand explanations after President Javier Milei allegedly helped Flávio Bolsonaro flee to the United States.
The Federal government of Brazil summoned Argentina's top envoy on Friday to demand an explanation regarding President Javier Milei's role in assisting Flávio Bolsonaro's escape from the country. The diplomatic summons follows allegations that Milei facilitated Bolsonaro's movement across the border into Argentina late Tuesday.
Flávio Bolsonaro, a defeated election candidate, entered Argentina before boarding a flight to the United States. This flight occurred after a Brazilian judge ordered Bolsonaro to surrender his passports, identifying him as a flight risk.
Bolsonaro is currently the subject of multiple criminal investigations in Brazil. These include a multimillion-dollar money laundering probe. Brazilian authorities are now seeking to determine the extent of the Argentine government's involvement in helping Bolsonaro evade these legal requirements.
