Turaki PDP Faction Submits Goodluck Jonathan as 2027 Candidate
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Tanimu Turaki manually submitted Goodluck Jonathan as its 2027 presidential candidate to Nigeria's electoral commission.
A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabir Tanimu Turaki manually submitted former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The group also submitted candidates for governorship and National Assembly seats to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong stated the manual filing was necessary after INEC denied the faction electronic portal access codes. The Turaki-led group accused the commission of institutional bias and failing to maintain neutrality amidst the party's internal leadership crisis. This submission follows a competing filing by a rival PDP faction backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, which nominated former senator Sandy Onor for the presidency.
The Turaki faction is currently appealing a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja that refused to compel INEC to recognize its interim leadership. The group argues that the court's decision contradicts previous judgments from the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal.
