Sultan Haitham bin Tarik Visits Botswana to Boost Investment

Sultan Haitham bin Tarik of Oman arrived in Gaborone, Botswana, on September 16, 2026, for a two-day state visit aimed at strengthening economic and investment ties. President Duma Gideon Boko welcomed the Sultan at Sir Seretse Khama International Airport with a twenty-one-gun artillery salute and an inspection of the Guard of Honour before the delegation proceeded to the Presidency Headquarters.

The visit builds on a series of diplomatic engagements, including two trips by President Boko to Oman in 2025 and 2026. These prior meetings established agreements for petroleum storage, medical cooperation, and mineral exploration. A primary focus of the partnership is a 3,000 MW renewable energy program, which includes the 500 MW Maun solar energy project that began implementation in April 2026.

To facilitate increased commercial and people-to-people exchanges, the Government of Botswana exempted Omani passport holders from entry visas for stays up to 90 days in July 2026. Omani officials have identified logistics, tourism, food security, livestock, agriculture, and mining as the primary sectors for future expertise exchange and investment.
