Sprouts Farmers Market Shares Plunge 24% After Traffic Decline

Sprouts Farmers Market shares fell 24% after third-quarter earnings revealed a drop in customer traffic, prompting a new national pricing strategy for 2027.

Sprouts Farmers Market shares dropped approximately 24% on October 28 following the release of third-quarter 2026 earnings. While the company reported net sales of $2.3 billion, a 5% year-over-year increase, it missed analyst expectations with a 0.9% decline in comparable store sales and a 3.3% drop in customer transactions.

Diluted earnings per share fell 1% to $1.21, also missing forecasts. In response to the declining traffic, the company lowered its full-year guidance and announced a national pricing and affordability strategy scheduled to launch in January 2027. Incoming CEO Nick Konat described the initiative as a strategic reset to offer more compelling value to customers.

CFO Curtis Valentine stated that the lack of recovery in traffic, units, and frequency indicated that the pressure on the business was not cyclical. Despite opening 15 new stores during the quarter, investors expressed concern over potential near-term margin compression as the grocer pivots its business model to stabilize its customer base.
