Plaza Hotel to Close for Four-Year Facade Restoration
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will close the Plaza Hotel in January 2027 for a four-year restoration of the building's landmark 18-story facade.
The Plaza Hotel in New York City will close in January 2027 to undergo a four-year restoration of its landmark 18-story facade. Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, the hotel's operator, announced the closure on Wednesday, stating the project is necessary for the long-term care and preservation of the 119-year-old building.
The closure will impact the hotel's guest rooms, event spaces, and the Palm Court restaurant. Fairmont has not yet disclosed the total cost of the project or whether the building's condominium residents will be displaced during the work.
The Hotel and Gaming Trades Council reported that 378 staff members are affected by the shutdown. The union stated that these employees retain the right to resume their positions at the same pay once the hotel reopens, and the council is assisting workers in finding interim employment.
