WalletHub Ranks Surprise Arizona Most Affordable City for Homebuyers
WalletHub identified Surprise, Arizona, as the state's most affordable city for homebuyers, though a separate study by Compare the Market disputes Yuma's affordability.
A study by WalletHub identified 11 Arizona cities as some of the most affordable locations for home buyers in the United States. Surprise, Arizona, ranked as the most affordable city in the state and third most affordable nationally, earning a score of 73.27 out of 100. This rating was based on house affordability, cost of living, homeowners insurance, and cost per square foot.
Other Arizona cities ranking highly in the report include Yuma at number four, Mesa at number 15, Peoria at number 22, and Gilbert at number 23. The report attributes the high ranking of Surprise to a combination of low median real estate taxes and a high volume of quarterly active listings.
These findings contrast with a separate study by Compare the Market, which categorized Yuma as one of the least affordable markets. The discrepancy is attributed to different methodologies, as Compare the Market compared average salaries directly to home prices rather than utilizing the broader metric set used by WalletHub.
