Moroccans Comprise Half of Foreign Welfare Recipients in Spain

Data from the National Social Security Institute reveals that Moroccan nationals represent nearly half of all foreign recipients of the Minimum Living Income (IMV). Of the 139,446 foreign nationals receiving the benefit, 69,517 are Moroccans, followed by 15,262 Romanians and 4,612 Ukrainians. The figures, obtained by the media outlet The Objective via a transparency request, provide the first official nationality-based breakdown of a program supporting nearly 280,000 total recipients, though the data excludes the Basque Country and Navarre.

Additional Social Security data indicates that approximately 70 percent of working-age Moroccan women in Spain do not formally contribute to the national employment system. These disclosures occur alongside a significant migration surge in Ceuta, where an estimated 50,000 Moroccans entered the Spanish enclave illegally over the past week.
