Apple Internally Names First Folding Phone iPhone Ultra

Apple is internally referring to its first folding smartphone as the iPhone Ultra, according to reports. The device is expected to launch this fall as part of a broader hardware release that includes the iPhone 18 Pro and Apple Watch Series 12.

Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman stated that the name is used by nearly everyone at the company, though the branding remains unofficial and may function as a codename. The internal naming has drawn criticism from some industry observers. Analyst Max Weinbach argued that the Ultra branding is illogical for a folding device, claiming it does not align with how the company uses the term for its high-performance chips.
