Kano Court Blocks INEC From Altering NDC Candidate List
The Nigeria Democratic Congress accuses the All Progressives Congress of plotting to disqualify its Kano governorship candidate, prompting a Federal High Court injunction against INEC.
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating a plot to disqualify its Kano State governorship candidate, Aminu Gwarzo, from the 2027 election. NDC vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso alleged that the APC and Governor Abba Yusuf pressured the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and utilized the judiciary to ensure Gwarzo's name was omitted from the official candidate list.
Kano State APC Chairman Umar Doguwa denied the allegations, characterizing them as political blackmail. Doguwa asserted that the legal challenges are the result of an internal crisis within the NDC involving aggrieved party members rather than external interference by the ruling party.
In response to the dispute, the Federal High Court in Kano issued an interim injunction restraining INEC from altering or publishing the gubernatorial candidate list for the NDC. This legal freeze remains in effect pending further hearings to determine the validity of the candidacy.
