HP Inc. and Huawei Sign Global WiFi Patent Deal

HP Inc. and Huawei signed a multi-year global agreement on Wednesday to cross-license WiFi patents. The deal grants HP access to a pool of 2,000 wireless network connectivity patents through the Sisvel WiFi 6 pool, a group of which Huawei was a founding member. In exchange, the agreement includes reciprocal patent rights from HP.
This partnership follows a larger patent dispute involving several companies that concluded last fall. The agreement is notable because it establishes a formal business relationship between the U.S.-based computing firm and the Chinese telecoms giant despite the United States government blacklisting Huawei in 2019 to restrict its access to American suppliers.
