ADC Denounces Prosecution of Abubakar Malami as Political Witch-Hunt

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denounced the investigation and prosecution of its 2027 governorship candidate, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami, as politically motivated. In a series of statements issued between July 18 and July 20, 2026, the party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of weaponizing anti-graft agencies and state institutions to intimidate opposition figures ahead of the general elections.

ADC leaders, including State Chairman Sufiyanu Bala and Elders Forum Chairman Shehu Aliyu Sambawa, alleged that Malami was detained for a bailable offense and that authorities intentionally exaggerated his family's assets to tarnish his reputation. The party claimed that prosecutors ignored wealth Malami acquired prior to his tenure as Attorney-General and condemned the use of "Gestapo methods" to muzzle opposition voices.

While government agencies maintain that the prosecution is based on legal evidence, the ADC asserts that the proceedings are an attempt to make opposition politics unbearable. Despite the legal pressure, the party declared its resolve to unseat the APC in 2027, citing public rejection of the ruling party's policies. The ADC expressed confidence that appellate courts will eventually provide a just resolution.
