LinkedIn Report Finds Gen Z Indians Hesitate to Network
LinkedIn reports 83% of Gen Z professionals in India avoid networking due to fear of judgment, despite connections increasing hiring odds by 8.5 times.
A report released by LinkedIn on September 2, 2026, reveals that 83% of Gen Z professionals in India hesitate to network with individuals who could advance their careers. The study, conducted by Censuswide among 18,050 respondents globally, identifies the primary barriers as a fear of being judged (44%), concerns about bothering others (39%), and worries about sounding inauthentic (37%).
This reluctance persists despite a significant professional advantage; LinkedIn data shows that Indian job applicants with an inside connection are nearly 8.5 times more likely to be hired than those without one. While 79% of Indian Gen Z recognize the importance of professional relationships, 59% report they have received no clear guidance on how to build these connections.
The findings contrast with older generations, as 92% of Millennials and 95% of Gen X professionals expressed willingness to help strangers starting their careers. LinkedIn Career Expert Nirajita Banerjee advises that networking should start with small, non-transactional interactions, such as engaging with content or finding common ground through shared industry interests, rather than relying on cold outreach.
