Tata Steel Profits Rise 19% Amid Major Odisha Expansion
Tata Steel reported a first-quarter profit increase to ₹2,385 crore and approved a ₹33,873-crore capacity expansion at its Neelachal Ispat Nigam subsidiary in Odisha.
Tata Steel reported consolidated net profit for the first quarter ended June 30, 2026, rising 19% year-on-year to ₹2,385 crore, though some reports indicate a lower profit of ₹2,318 crore. Consolidated revenue grew to approximately ₹61,027 crore, driven largely by domestic performance in India, where deliveries grew 11% year-on-year to 4.85 million tonnes.
To strengthen its retail long-products portfolio, the company's board approved a ₹33,873-crore capital expenditure to expand steelmaking capacity by 4.8 million tonnes per annum at its subsidiary, Neelachal Ispat Nigam Limited in Odisha. Additionally, a 0.75-mtpa electric arc furnace plant in Ludhiana is currently ramping up operations.
Overseas operations faced a more challenging environment. While the company's UK business narrowed its EBITDA losses, operations in the Netherlands conducted trial runs following disruptions at the Direct Sheet Plant. CEO TV Narendran noted that the global operating environment remained complex, citing the impact of developments in West Asia on input costs and supply chains.
