Apple Asks Google to Install Servers for Next-Gen Siri
Apple Inc. requested Google LLC install dedicated servers in Apple data centers to support a more personalized, Gemini-powered version of the Siri assistant.
Apple Inc. has requested that Google LLC investigate and establish dedicated servers within Apple's own data centers to support a future, more personalized version of Siri. This move follows a January announcement of a multi-year partnership in which the next generation of Apple Foundation Models will be based on Google's Gemini AI models and cloud technology.
The request aims to accelerate Apple's AI development to maintain competitiveness against rivals such as Microsoft and Amazon. Reports indicate that Apple's current server capacity is underpowered for the requirements of an AI-driven Siri. While Apple Intelligence continues to run on Apple devices and its Private Cloud Compute system—of which only an average of 10 percent of capacity is currently in use—the upgraded, personalized Siri will rely more heavily on Google's infrastructure.
Apple intends for these integrated servers to leverage Gemini's capabilities while strictly adhering to Apple's specific privacy requirements. The collaboration expands Apple's dependence on Google's cloud storage and artificial intelligence technology to enable advanced features for its virtual assistant.
