Democrats Win County Commission Seats in Kansas and Idaho
Democratic candidates unseated Republican incumbents in Riley County, Kansas, and Ada County, Idaho, during Tuesday's local elections.
Democratic candidates secured key local victories in Kansas and Idaho during Tuesday's elections, unseating Republican incumbents in two separate county commission races.
In Idaho, Kelceymarie Warner defeated Republican incumbent Ryan Davidson for the Ada County Commission District 1 seat. Warner won with 50.09% of the vote, a narrow margin of 0.18% representing 400 votes. Davidson attributed the loss to a national sentiment against Republicans. In the same county, Republican incumbent Rod Beck narrowly retained his District 2 seat against Democrat Michael Fitzgerald, winning with 50.14% of the vote. Neither Davidson nor Fitzgerald indicated plans to request a recount.
In Kansas, Democrat Rob Voelker defeated incumbent John Ford for the Riley County Commission District 1 seat. Unofficial final results show Voelker secured 3,936 votes to Ford's 2,186. Voelker credited the win to an 18-month campaign designed to offer voters an alternative candidate for the commission.
