Delhi Police Detain Supreme Court Lawyer During Protest
Delhi police detained Supreme Court lawyer Shahdan Farasat and other activists during a protest near the Safdarjung flyover in New Delhi.
Delhi police detained Shahdan Farasat, a Supreme Court lawyer, on Saturday during a protest near the Safdarjung flyover in New Delhi. Farasat had approached the site to provide legal assistance when he was taken into custody in a police van. He was released shortly thereafter without being informed of the reason for his detention.
During the operation, police also detained bystanders and protesters, including Neha Bora, president of the All India Students Association. Farasat criticized the administration and law enforcement, stating that the authorities are spreading anarchy and restricting the ability of citizens to express dissent peacefully.
Beyond the immediate events of the protest, Farasat raised concerns regarding the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. He alleged the process is flawed and could exclude millions of genuine voters, arguing that the judiciary must intervene to protect democratic rights and ensure the city remains a space for peaceful demonstrations.
