NNPP to Adopt External Presidential Candidate for 2027 Election
The New Nigeria Peoples Party will adopt a presidential candidate from another platform for 2027, delaying its own original candidate until 2031.
The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) will adopt a frontline presidential candidate from another political platform for the 2027 election rather than fielding its own. Founder Boniface Aniebonam stated that prolonged litigation over the party's national leadership left insufficient time to develop a standard-bearer capable of competing with other major political parties.
Aniebonam explained that the party previously used a placeholder candidate while searching for a contender with the necessary character and capacity. He noted that the NNPP intends to avoid repeating the "mistake" made with Rabiu Kwankwaso in 2023. The selection process for the 2027 adoptee will involve party leadership and stakeholders from the maritime, shipping, transport, and logistics sectors.
While the Independent National Electoral Commission has recognized the leadership of National Chairman Agbo Major, the party will not field its own original presidential candidate until 2031. The NNPP continues to contest other legislative and state executive positions nationwide.
