Germany Forecasts Inflation Rise Above 3 Percent
Germany expects to report preliminary inflation data on September 30 with forecasts suggesting the Consumer Price Index will rise to 3.1 percent.
Germany is expected to release preliminary national Consumer Price Index data on September 30, 2026. Market forecasts suggest inflation will rise to 3.1 percent year-over-year, an increase from the 2.9 percent recorded in August. The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices is expected to reach 3.2 percent.
Recent data from August showed energy prices rising 10.5 percent annually, although core CPI remained steadier at 2.4 percent. Analysts suggest that a broad acceleration across several German states, including Bavaria, Saxony, Hesse, Baden Wuerttemberg, and North Rhine Westphalia, would reinforce concerns that headline inflation pressures persist.
These results are critical for the European Central Bank, as an uptick in core inflation could signal broadening price pressures and second-round effects. Such a trend may influence the bank's policy decisions during its final meetings of the year.
