SiCSem to Build ₹3,406 Crore Semiconductor Plant in Odisha

The Unit Approval Committee of the Falta Special Economic Zone approved a proposal by SiCSem Private Limited to establish a silicon carbide (SiC) semiconductor manufacturing facility in Odisha. The project, located at the ESDM Park within IDCO Infovalley-II in the Khordha district near Bhubaneswar, involves a total investment of ₹3,406.25 crore.

Funding for the 21.889-acre site includes a ₹700 crore capital subsidy from the central government, a ₹350 crore subsidy from the Odisha government, and ₹1,956.25 crore from the promoter. The plant is designed as a fully integrated production ecosystem covering the entire value chain, including wafer fabrication and assembly, testing, marking, and packaging.

Once operational, the facility will produce 4.8 million SiC diodes and 91.2 million SiC MOSFETs annually. These components are critical for aerospace hardware, high-voltage power grids, renewable energy systems, and electric vehicles. The project is projected to generate ₹7,043 crore in export turnover and ₹4,523 crore in net foreign exchange earnings over five years, aiming to reduce India's reliance on imported power semiconductors and strengthen its domestic high-technology industrial base.
