Pakistani Rupee Stabilizes as Gold Prices Drop
The Pakistani rupee remained steady against the US dollar while domestic gold prices fell following US Federal Reserve signals of monetary tightening.
The Pakistani rupee maintained a narrow trading range against major international currencies between September 22 and September 25, 2026. The US dollar opened the period with a selling rate of 278.35 PKR on September 22, dipped slightly to 277.22 PKR on Monday, and eventually stabilized at a selling rate of 278.35 PKR by September 25.
Other major currencies remained largely consistent throughout the week. The UK pound sterling held steady at 371.75/375.25 PKR, and the Euro remained at 318.94/323.95 PKR. Regional currencies, including the UAE dirham and Saudi riyal, continued to trade between 74.00 and 76.35 PKR.
Simultaneously, domestic gold prices experienced a decline on September 22, dropping Rs2,700 to Rs457,536 per tola. This domestic slump mirrored a 0.6% dip in international spot gold to $4,350.39 per ounce. The decline was driven by a strengthening US dollar and market expectations that the United States Federal Reserve would implement further monetary tightening, with traders projecting an 88% probability of a rate hike in December.
