Queensland Governor Unveils Memorial for Fallen Army Aircrew

Governor Jeannette Young unveiled a memorial at Shute Harbour honoring four Australian Army aircrew who died in a 2023 helicopter crash.

Jeannette Young, the Governor of Queensland, officially unveiled a memorial at Lion’s Lookout in Shute Harbour on July 26, 2026. The monument honors four Australian Army aircrew members who died in July 2023 following the crash of an MRH-90 Taipan helicopter, callsign BUSHMAN 83, during Exercise Talisman Sabre.

As part of her official program, the Governor traveled through the Cairns, Whitsunday, and Isaac regional councils alongside Professor Graeme Nimmo. The day's activities concluded with a working dinner hosted by Mayor Kelly Vea Vea at the Isaac Events Centre in Moranbah.
