German Retail Sales Rise 1.3% in August
German retail sales grew 1.3% in August, led by online spending, following a sharp decline in July.
Retail sales in Germany increased by 1.3% in August, marking a recovery from a 3.4% decline recorded in July. This rebound was primarily driven by a 3.7% rise in online spending and a 1.6% increase in non-food sales, while petrol station sales remained flat.
German retail figures indicate uneven household spending patterns, as real sales decreased by 0.4% compared to the previous year. The significant slump in July was attributed in part to the expiration of a fuel discount that had been active during May and June.
Market analysts suggest these figures will have minimal impact on the outlook of the European Central Bank. The central bank continues to prioritize September inflation figures and ongoing energy price pressures when determining monetary policy.
