Madhya Pradesh Relaunches Public Bus Service After 21 Years

The Government of Madhya Pradesh relaunched its public transport bus service on September 25, 2026, marking the first time the state has operated such a service in approximately 21 years. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari flagged off the Mukhyamantri Sugam Parivahan Seva from Dussehra Maidan in Bhopal.

The initial phase of the launch introduces 351 intercity and intracity buses serving seven cities: Indore, Bhopal, Jabalpur, Rewa, Dewas, Katni, and Bhind. The service operates on a public-private partnership model designed to ensure safe and affordable connectivity between urban centers and rural areas. The new fleet is equipped with modern technology, including GPS, CCTV, panic buttons, and digital ticketing.

State officials have set a long-term goal to expand the fleet to 15,000 buses by 2031. This expansion aims to cover 75% of gram panchayats across the state.
