Anthropic Mandates Remote Work Amid Security Strike Threats

Anthropic instructed its San Francisco-based employees to work from home on Monday and Tuesday of this week. The mandate followed a notice from Allied Universal, the company's security staffing firm, indicating that security workers might strike.

The Service Employees International Union (SEIU), which represents the security workers, denied issuing strike threats or calling for a strike authorization vote for this week. However, the union has been engaged in protracted contract negotiations with Allied Universal and other California firms since April, seeking higher wages, improved healthcare, and better job training.

Anthropic declined to comment on the stay-at-home order. The disruption occurs as the AI company prepares for an initial public offering, having filed a confidential S-1 draft in June.
