APC and Rival Parties Clash Ahead of Osun Governorship Election

Political tensions have escalated in Osun State as parties prepare for the August 15, 2026, governorship election. The All Progressives Congress (APC) has intensified its efforts, with National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru campaigning in the Iwo, Ola-Oluwa, and Ayedire Federal Constituencies to support candidate Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. Basiru urged voters to seek transformational development through job creation and youth skills development. The APC National Campaign Council is scheduled to meet on August 3 in Abuja to further coordinate these efforts.

Meanwhile, the political climate has turned confrontational. The African Action Congress (AAC) condemned candidates from the APC, Accord, and ADC for boycotting a televised media debate, asserting that the candidates had no development agenda and intended to rely on vote-buying. The APC countered by demanding that Governor Ademola Adeleke explain his administration's alleged failure to curb criminal activity and political violence since taking office in November 2022.

In response, the Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Adeleke, defended his record on infrastructure and salaries. The council rejected the APC's security claims, instead accusing the party of utilizing political intimidation and violence to influence the upcoming vote.
