Osun State Political Parties Sign Peace Accord for Election
Candidates and 14 political parties signed a peace accord in Osogbo to ensure non-violence and neutrality during the August 15 governorship election.
Abdulsalami Abubakar, Chairman of the National Peace Committee, facilitated a peace accord signing on Thursday at the Oasis Event Centre in Osogbo. Candidates and 14 political parties contesting the August 15 Osun State governorship election committed to non-violence, civility, and respect for the rule of law.
Represented by Gen. Martin Agwai, Abubakar stated that no electoral victory is worth the loss of a single life and urged participants to reject hate speech and misinformation. National Peace Committee convener Matthew Kukah emphasized that the responsibility for peaceful elections extends beyond political actors to all represented institutions.
The Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, pledged professionalism and neutrality to maintain a transparent process. Governor Ademola Adeleke attended the event, while candidates from the All Progressives Congress and African Democratic Congress were represented by proxies.
