Nvidia Hires Former OpenAI Data Center Head Chris Malone
Nvidia appointed former OpenAI data center head Chris Malone as vice president of its DSX Platform to expand its AI infrastructure services.
Nvidia Inc. hired Chris Malone this month as vice president of its DSX Platform, a division that helps customers design and develop AI data centers based on the company's technical specifications and infrastructure standards. The appointment signals a strategic shift for Nvidia as it expands from supplying AI chips into providing broader infrastructure services.
Malone previously led data centers at OpenAI, joining that firm in March 2025 after holding infrastructure roles at Meta and Google. His departure from OpenAI in August follows a series of executive exits at the AI developer, which is currently planning a public listing in 2027.
The move occurs alongside deepening ties between Nvidia and OpenAI. The two companies recently entered an agreement to provide $105 billion in credit support for a 10-gigawatt data center in Ohio. The facility is being developed by SB Energy Global Holdings Ltd. for OpenAI's use.
