Azerbaijan Hosts OIC Ministerial Meeting on Combating Corruption
President Ilham Aliyev and Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev led an OIC ministerial meeting in Baku to coordinate international anti-corruption strategies and digital reforms.
President Ilham Aliyev and Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev addressed the Third Ministerial Meeting of Anti-Corruption Law Enforcement Authorities of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Baku on October 27-28. The event gathered over 250 participants from 48 OIC member states to coordinate strategies for detecting and investigating corruption offences.
President Aliyev highlighted Azerbaijan's efforts in legislative modernization and the digitalization of public services. He noted that while artificial intelligence expands opportunities to combat corruption, it also creates new risks for the misuse of digital financial instruments. He further referenced the laundering of proceeds from the illegal exploitation of Azerbaijan's natural resources during the 30-year occupation of its territories.
Leading up to the ministerial session, Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev held bilateral meetings with anti-corruption officials from Egypt and the Maldives to exchange best practices and improve international legal cooperation. A preparatory meeting was also held on October 27, where Deputy Prosecutor General Heydar Mammadov assumed the chairmanship from Qatar to coordinate draft resolutions and statements.
Throughout the proceedings, Kamran Aliyev emphasized the necessity of international cooperation and the importance of prevention over punitive measures. The discussions focused on strengthening institutional ties within the OIC, the United Nations, and the Non-Aligned Movement to achieve sustainable development and transparency in public administration.
