The Guardian Launches Annual Climate Support Campaign
The Guardian launched its annual climate support campaign to highlight global environmental solutions and positive initiatives through its environment team.
The Guardian launched its annual climate support campaign to showcase positive environmental initiatives and symbiotic solutions to the climate crisis. The campaign promotes the publication's Alternatives column, a weekly news feature established in 2023 that documents global transformations. Examples highlighted include the implementation of sponge cities in China for rainwater reuse, river-water cooling systems in Paris, and the widespread adoption of heat pumps in Norway.
Reporters for the campaign are sharing specific success stories, such as the recycling of microplastics into home insulation in Nepal and the restoration of wetlands on a barley farm in the US Pacific Northwest. The latter project aimed to create a wildlife sanctuary and stop pollutant run-off.
The initiative will culminate in a solutions-focused panel event on October 20. This event will feature experts including Professor Andy Haines and Katie White MP to discuss actionable paths forward for the environment.
