Sony Releases PS5 Security Update to Prevent Jailbreaking
Sony released a PS5 firmware update on November 2 to implement security fixes and prevent console jailbreaking ahead of the GTA 6 launch.
Sony released PS5 firmware update 26.07-14.22.00 on November 2, 2026. The 1.267 GB update provides security fixes to the system software, following a previous update released on October 21.
The company is acting to prevent the homebrew community from jailbreaking the console, an action that would allow users to modify software and potentially pirate games. This effort is particularly urgent due to the upcoming release of GTA 6, as Sony aims to prevent piracy on both PS5 and PC platforms.
While evidence of a jailbreak for firmware 14.10 recently emerged, reports indicate that dumping game executables remains impossible on that version. Sony may release further security updates before November 19 to ensure the platform is secure before the game launches.
