AI Heating System Reduces Home Energy Use by 18%
A two-year home experiment found that an AI-governed heating system reduced gas consumption by 18% compared to manual thermostat controls.
A two-year home experiment involving a 1930s brick house demonstrated that an AI-governed heating system can lower energy consumption and costs more effectively than strict manual control. The test compared a manual schedule using a Worcester Bosch boiler and Hive thermostat against a tado° X system.
The AI system utilizes anonymized data from more than 1 million homes to optimize room-by-room heating. It automates shut-offs through geofencing and open-window detection. Over a 213-day period, the AI-driven approach reduced gas usage by 18%, saving 2,581 kWh. At current energy price caps, this equates to a saving of approximately £205.70.
While the hardware setup cost roughly £930 and required a monthly subscription for AI features, the results indicated higher comfort levels and lower bills than the previous manual regime.
