Tech Giants Report Mixed Third-Quarter Financial Results
Major technology companies reported divergent third-quarter results, with AI driving growth for Meta and Lam Research while battery shortages hindered Tesla.
Major technology companies reported mixed third-quarter financial results on Wednesday, highlighting a divide between AI-driven growth and supply chain struggles. Meta Platforms achieved record revenue and announced the creation of a new class of non-voting stock specifically to fund further investments in artificial intelligence.
IBM also reported growth in both profit and revenue, which the company attributed to the completion of deals that had been delayed from the previous quarter. In the semiconductor sector, Lam Research saw first-quarter sales increase by more than 50% due to high AI demand in Asia. Despite this growth, the company's stock declined after it issued second-quarter earnings guidance that merely aligned with analyst expectations.
Conversely, Tesla reported flat sales and lower profits for the period. The company cited a battery shortage that hindered production as the primary cause for the diminished financial performance.
