Governor Sanwo-Olu Pays 3 Billion Naira to Displaced Residents
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu distributed over 3 billion naira in compensation to 331 residents whose properties were acquired for Lagos road infrastructure projects.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented compensation cheques totaling between 3 billion and 3.1 billion naira to 331 Project Affected Persons on July 20, 2026. The payments were distributed during a ceremony at the Adeyemi Bero Auditorium in Alausa, Ikeja, to property owners in Badagry, Epe, Ikorodu, Igbogbo, and Ogba whose lands and buildings were acquired for strategic road infrastructure projects.
Sanwo-Olu characterized the disbursements as a legal and moral obligation under the Land Use Act rather than an act of charity. He stated that development must maintain a "human face" and prioritize justice to ensure public trust. To prevent fraudulent claims, the government implemented a verification process involving professional valuation and enumeration before the payments were approved.
The infrastructure projects aim to reduce traffic congestion, facilitate commerce, and improve connectivity across Lagos. Sanwo-Olu assured residents with pending claims that genuine owners would be paid and urged the current recipients to invest their funds prudently.
