Minnesota Legislative Elections See Millions in PAC Spending
Minnesota voters will decide all 201 legislative seats this November as parties spend millions to break a historic deadlock in the state House and Senate.
All 201 seats in the Minnesota Legislature are up for election this November as the state faces a historic political divide. The Senate currently holds a narrow 34-33 majority for the Minnesota Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, while the House is tied 67-67. This deadlock has required bipartisan support for all legislation sent to the governor.
Millions of dollars from state parties and outside political action committees are flowing into highly competitive races, particularly in the Twin Cities metro area and Greater Minnesota. Spending has exceeded $1 million in Senate Districts 3 and 4. House District 54A remains a key battleground following a previous 14-vote victory that triggered a recount and legislative boycotts.
Significant funding is being driven by Republican-affiliated PACs, including Advance Minnesota, Renew Minnesota, and Pro Jobs Majority. These groups, alongside targeted investments from the House and Senate DFL and GOP caucuses, are funding candidates in competitive seats to shift the balance of power in St. Paul.
