Kansas Voter Registration System Fails Before Primary Deadline

The Kansas Department of Revenue caused a disruption of the state's online voter registration system for approximately 24 hours between May 30 and May 31, 2026. The outage occurred immediately before the June 1 deadline for voters to change their party affiliation for the August 4 primary election.

Officials attributed the failure to a regularly scheduled server migration that unintentionally took the Department of Revenue's website offline, which in turn disabled the Secretary of State's interconnected registration site. Functionality was restored to the online systems on Sunday afternoon.

During the disruption, the Kansas Secretary of State's Office directed voters to submit paper application forms to local or state offices by noon on Monday to meet the deadline.
