Aeromexico Deploys Honeywell Runway Collision Prevention System

Aeromexico will serve as the launch customer for Honeywell Aerospace's SURF-A runway-collision prevention system, implementing the software upgrade across its entire fleet of more than 100 Boeing 737 Max and 737NG aircraft.

SURF-A enhances existing ground-proximity warning and traffic collision-avoidance systems by using ADS-B surveillance data and satellite-based positioning. The technology provides pilots with visual and aural alerts 15 to 30 seconds before a potential runway collision. The Federal Aviation Administration is expected to begin certifying the system on several Boeing models in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the process continuing into 2027.

Honeywell Aerospace CEO Jim Currier stated the technology is designed to give pilots the time needed to recognize hazards and avoid fatal accidents. Aeromexico Chief Operations Officer Santiago Diago noted that safety guides the airline's investment decisions.
