Arab League and GCC Condemn Attack on Qatari LNG Tanker

The Arab League and Gulf Cooperation Council condemned an attack on the Qatari LNG tanker Al Mayeda in the Arabian Gulf as a dangerous escalation.

The League of Arab States and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) issued formal condemnations following an attack on the Al Mayeda, a liquefied natural gas tanker owned by the Qatari company Nakilat. The vessel was targeted while sailing in the Arabian Gulf.

The Arab League stated that the targeting of commercial vessels violates international law and creates immediate risks for crew safety, maritime navigation, and international trade. GCC Secretary General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi described the incident as a "dangerous escalation" that disrupts global economic activity and undermines regional security.

Both organizations expressed solidarity with Qatar and called for the perpetrators to be held accountable. They warned that repeated attacks on energy tankers threaten the stability of the global energy supply and pose significant risks to the marine environment.
