India and Egypt Establish Bilateral Defense Cooperation Plan
India and Egypt agreed to a new defense cooperation plan focusing on joint training, maritime security, and defense industry co-production during meetings in Cairo.
The Ministry of Defence of India and Egyptian defense officials established a bilateral defense cooperation plan for 2026–27 during the 11th Joint Defence Committee meeting in Cairo from April 20 to 22, 2026. Led by Joint Secretary Amitabh Prasad, the Indian delegation worked with Egyptian officials to expand military engagements, joint training, and maritime security while increasing the complexity of future military exercises.
Beyond tactical cooperation, the two nations agreed to develop a dedicated defense industry cooperation plan. This framework aims to explore the co-development and co-production of military equipment, with India leveraging its growth in defense manufacturing and its $4 billion in exports to facilitate the partnership.
The engagement included the first-ever Navy-to-Navy staff talks and a strategic meeting with Egyptian Air Force Commander Lieutenant General Amr Abdel Rahman Saqr. These developments build upon a 2022 Memorandum of Understanding and the 2023 elevation of bilateral relations to a Strategic Partnership.
