Ford Re-recalls 110,000 Focus Cars in Canada Over Fuel Defects

Ford Motor Company issued a re-recall on July 20 for approximately 110,000 Ford Focus compact cars in Canada from the 2012 to 2018 model years. The action follows findings that previous repairs conducted under recall 18S32, overseen by Transport Canada, may have been performed incorrectly.

The defect involves a canister purge valve that may stick open, which can cause the fuel tank to deform and lead to inaccurate fuel gauge readings. According to the company, this failure can result in a sudden loss of power to the wheels, which "could increase the risk of a crash."

Ford will notify affected owners by mail to update the powertrain control module software. Depending on the vehicle's condition, technicians may also need to replace the canister purge valve, carbon canister, fuel tank, and fuel delivery module. The company advised owners to maintain at least half a tank of fuel until these repairs are completed.
